Simple Syrup
This is a basic skill you’ll need if you really want to get into making some delicious cocktails. All it is is equal parts white sugar to water, brought to a boil along with any flavouring you would like to add.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup white sugar
1 cup water
Any additional flavourings (i.e. lemon rind, strawberries, lavender, rosemary, basil, cracked black pepper)
DIRECTIONS
In a small saucepan heat the sugar, water and your choice of flavouring over medium high heat until the mixture is boiling and the sugar completely dissolves. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, cool and strain before using. This will last refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 1 month. If you are adding a juice to your simple syrup as a flavouring (i.e. lemon juice) then add this after the mixture has boiled and cooled completely.
